What does it mean to be “unmovable”? This idea calls to mind a massive boulder entrenched in the rocky shoreline of a coast. Storms assail; water rushes around it, under it, and sometimes even over it. Yet it does not move.
Don’t we often find ourselves in the same circumstances? The storms of life assail all of us from time to time. Trials, stress, hardship, sin, fatigue; the weariness of life seems to rush all about us and sometimes we wonder if we will drown in the struggle. However, God calls us to be UNMOVABLE!
“Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord” (1 Corinthians 15:58 NKJV).
God has not called us to be unmovable and then left us to figure out how we are to do that. In His word that gives us “all we need for life and godliness” (2 Peter 1:3), God has given us everything we need to overcome. He is there showing us how to conquer the weariness of life that sometimes threatens to push us off-course in our walk with Christ. He teaches us not just how to survive those times of trial, but how to abound in our Christian life; making all of our labor and toil worth the effort. Paul gave the Christians in 1 Corinthians 15:19 words of encouragement that still apply to us today in the midst of our own struggles – In Christ we are not to be pitied! We are not without hope!
